Tiffany Sterling Pitcher 1888 Brown University Provenance
Description
A large antique sterling silver water pitcher by the Tiffany Co. circa 1888 in excellent condition with an engraved base with a connection to Brown University in Providence. The presentation is to Moses Brown Ives Goddard (1831-1907) who gifted the bronze Caesar Augustus statue which was in front of Rhode Island Hall and then moved to the Sharpe Refectory. John Nicholas Brown was an American book collector who donated his father’s collection to Brown University. His brother was Harold Brown and sister Sophia Augusta Brown Sherman who was an heiress and socialite in New York and Newport society during the Gilded Age (1867-1947.)
