Description
A rare double miniature English antique sterling silver hallmarked miniature cruet or salt with two oval bowls and cast detailed butterfly wing lids which open by pressing a plunger on the top. The wings stay open after being activated and can be closed by pressing on the wings again. Hallmarked with the maker’s mark of James Barclay Hennell in London 1881. The interior of the bowls has a gold wash.
Hennell was noted for fine quality unusual Victorian novelty silver. Hallmarked on the base and on the wings with a partial mark.
