An extremely rare Spratling sterling butterfly pin with bronze application to the oval spots on the wings. Spratling mark 1940-1944. This is the largest size butterfly pin manufactured by William Spratling ie 4" tall by 3 1/4" wide. The butterfly has the original pin, hinge and closure clip with no sign of any solder or repair, a positive factor as many of the pins are replaced with modern closures and pin.
